Question by : How come hip-hop artists never contribute to society?
When was the last time they reached back into the very same ghettos they rap about all the time? Musicians of other genres are actively involved in humanitarian aid in South America and Africa, and sponsor scholarships for bright kids who come from poor families. But, how come hip-hop artists are missing from the fray? Isn’t it both an irony and hypocrisy that they call us, the educated black folks, the “sell-outs”? When was the last time a hip-hop artist did anything good for society?

  1. Eddie Vedder says:

    Why do you care?

Unless you could you be benefiting from that African aid the rappers don’t provide, it seems like something stupid to bicker over.

  2. Luchini On My Mind says:

It is not their obligation, and neither it is their problem.

“Musicians of other genres are actively involved in humanitarian aid in South America and Africa, and sponsor scholarships for bright kids who come from poor families. ”

that does nothing, how bout do something that actually gets jobs? bring business;s there?

Something that will actually contribute to the economy or generate jobs…

    WRONG!

Kanye West has the Kanye West Foundation to help less fortunate children stay in school. He also stopped buying blood diamonds because of the conflict over them.

Lupe Fiasco climbed Mt. Killamanjaro to help raise awareness about the scarceness of water in poorer countries.

Jay-Z went to Africa and visited a village where people had to walk miles to get fresh water. He donated money to build them a well.

Diddy, along with Jay-Z, pledged $ 1 million to help American Red Cross to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

    Shall I continue?

i think you need to go do research before asking a question like this. there are tons of hip hop artists that have charity events and most come out of their own pockets besides charity with donations and giving things to people and families. i think wee need to take care of home 1st before worrying about humanitarian aid in other countries.

    wyclef-humanitarian aid
fat joe- donated all new computers to school in his hometwon bronx ny
diddy- donated to katrina + charity events
jay-z- donated to katrina + charity and personal
the lox- built carwash to employ local people from their hood. built play ground too for kids.
david banner- tons of charity work
    t.i.- tons of charity work
    ludacris- same as above
dipset- gave food away for holiday
    chingy-same as above
    big boi-same as above
